Charlie Chaplin was a dedicated and creative artist and musician. He not only preformed in movies, he was also a director, screenwriter, and editor. He earned a lot of money and formed his own movie company so he could make movies on his own terms and his own time. He was a perfectionist. It’s been reported that during the “famed feeding-machine sequence in ‘Modern Times’, Chaplin re-shot the scene two hundred times”.
He also had a fondness for young girls, having married his first and second wives when they were both 16 years old. His third wife was the oldest of his four wives; she was in her early twenties. When Chaplin was 54 years old, he married the 18 year old daughter of playwright Eugene O'Neill.
