Most animals can quickly tell when a fire is nearby thanks to their strong senses of smell, sight, and hearing, and therefore do not typically need human help to be rescued. Although some very young, old, or injured animals may need rescuing, most large and small animals will escape by their natural means of movement.
This means birds will fly away, bear, deer, and other four legged animals will run away or take refuge in streams and lakes. Some amphibians and other small creatures will bury themselves in the dirt or hide under rocks.
