There are Rastafarians in other parts of the world, even though it is rooted in Africa. Africa is the Rastafarians heaven. It is called "Zion." It is paradise on earth, and the goal of many Rastafari is to move back to Africa. The entire Rastafarian belief system is rooted in their cultural heritage. The colors of the Ethiopian flag were red, green, and yellow, so another addition was made with four colors in total.

These colors have a symbolic significance in Rastafari beliefs. The yellow is said to refer to the wealth of their homeland in Africa. The red is symbolic of blood and past suffering, and the black is an apparent reference to black people who initially started the movement to return to their roots. The green is related to the abundant plant life in Africa.
