Imperialism exists today, but not in the exact form practiced during the Roman Empire or the British Empire. A country exercises hegemony today by projecting its power and influence through military force, ideological control, capitalist accumulation, and dominance of international finance, trade, technology, and science. Latin America suffers from vast disparities of wealth between wealthy descendants, landowners, and agricultural peasantry.
Africa and Latin America still demonstrate imperialistic thoughts because of the imposition of artificial borders. The United States still practices imperialism. We claim political land, and we try to persuade other countries to follow us ideologically. We seek out resources from other countries for economic growth. We still put specific theories of imperialism into practice.
