The North America, black bear is generally not a great tree climber. All grizzly cubs and some adult grizzly bears can climb trees if the spacing of the branches is correct. When a mother bear brings her cubs out of their den, the first thing they teach them is how to climb. As the bears age, climbing trees becomes a somewhat daunting task; however, black bears are excellent climbers.
They will use their claws to pull themselves up, and they will even kill their opponents by throwing them off the trees. A person running away from a bear and climbing a tree is only provoking the bear. These animals may climb trees to escape danger
