It seems to be that Elephants do not technically 'run' but they walk at a faster pace. An elephant can 'run' about 40kmph (15mph) top speed. The speed of an Elephant is far greater than the fastest human - Usian Bolt. They usually maintain an increase in step as they move.

The speed of an Elephant is limited by its extraordinary size of about 5 to 6 tonnes. The average speed of a walking Elephant is about 4mph. No matter how fast an elephant moves its foot fall pattern never change.
