The Chinese workplace has a unique culture. Moonpies are bribes (yes, that is a real thing; search “moonpie corruption” for more), subverting the state can get you fired and on a public trial, and corruption is rife. It’s almost something you’d expect to find in George Orwell’s 1984 instead of 2018 China. All satire aside, it is honestly a different place.
The biggest difference between the workplace in China and that of the west is that business deals will largely depend on your friendships and who trusts you. The more people you know and work well with, the more likely it is that you’ll be able to do business in China. However, the CCP and the government will have ultimate say in whether or not your business succeeds in China, since the landscape is heavily skewed towards Chinese businesses.
