The only thing that modern-day China will acknowledge has followed them from the olden days is the idea that they own a lot of territory. This is because the Cultural Revolution, which happened in China between 1966 and 1976, basically destroyed any good feelings that modern China had towards its history.

Prior to this, the communists had taken over, China was splintering away from everyone even more so than they had before, and China was getting over being colonized. China had a history of being very inclusive for traders, so they stopped that. They had a history of intellectuals being respected. That went, too. Honestly, it’s rather depressing.

However, modern-day Chinese get their attitude from their forerunners, regardless of what the CCP wants them to believe.
