So far, out of the twelve known dynasties of China, the Zhou dynasty ruled the longest. They ruled from about 1046 BC to about 256 BC. This is a total rule of 790 years. Think about it: this dynasty ruled for almost 800 years. This particular dynasty also gave the Chinese the Mandate of Heaven rule. This was the idea that if a ruler lost control of the country, it was the heavens saying it was time to pass the dynasty along.
Naturally, the happier an emperor could make the country, the more inclined they were to believe they were chosen by the gods.
At the height of this dynasty, an area from Tibet to the sea was covered east-west, and from Hong Kong to about Inner Mongolia was covered north-south.
