This is not mentioned in the original story. However, when a character is given a name, the author typically thinks about it before they settle on a name. Once the name for a character has been picked, there is no reason to change it. Most authors today describe changing a character’s name unnecessarily or too late in the game as replacing their character with a robot. It doesn’t feel right.

However, since this story is Middle Eastern in origin, it is possible that the name Ali Baba has significance from the time period it was originally written in that no one is aware of. The story itself has unknown origins other than first appearing in 1704 as part of a French translation of “One Thousand and One Nights.”
