The short answer is yes. I apologize for any terminology I may get wrong as I don’t play trumpet, but here is a longer explanation of why. Chords are simply a mix of three or more notes that are all played at once. This is often used as a base when playing, and will be repeated in the piece.

To play most pieces in an orchestra or in a jazz band, the trumpet player will need to know how to finger the chords. It can be a little harder on the trumpet, since you can only play one note at a time, but that’s why multiple players are given pieces. It can be easily set up to have a harmony going with that available.
