This is a touchy subject for those in India, but here it goes. Up until the last couple of decades, divorce was hard to obtain, and a safe abortion even more so if the child was a boy. There are many stories of Indian parents seeking abortions of female fetuses, but that’s not what the question wants to know.
Today, abortion is not illegal so long as it is done before twenty weeks of pregnancy. After that, the water becomes a little more murky, as it often does.
Divorce is a little harder to obtain than an abortion. Legally, a couple has to be living separately - IE under separate roofs - for at least a year before the divorce can actually be started in paperwork.
