India is a country known for many interesting religious and cultural sites, sounds, colors, tastes, and especially its festivals. The website for the government of India’s Ministry of Culture lists five annual religious dance festivals, three annual religious music festivals, and twenty cultural festivals.
Here are brief descriptions of just two cultural festivals: The Makar Sankranti & Pongal festival is held the second week in January and people “pray for abundance in wealth and health”. The festival of Holi celebrates the triumph of good over evil and honors the sacrifice of Holika, the evil sister of a demon king.
