It’s a bit difficult to find a reliable list of all the countries where WhatsApp is banned, partially because it keeps changing. In addition, since WhatsApp is now Facebook, here is a list of countries where I believe either one or both of the social media sites is banned as of August, 2018: Guyana, Kuwait, Libya, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Viet Nam. In China, Facebook is banned in many parts of the country except for “within a 17-square-mile free-trade zone in Shanghai and only to make foreign investors feel more at home”.
