Bandicoots are not friendly to humans and they have not been domesticated. They are sometimes hunted for food by Indigenous Australians. Because they are nocturnal animals, they are shy and easily excitable and would tend to burrow into tunnels or logs when being approached by a human.
They are also solitary animals. These characteristic also help to explain why a bandicoot would not make a good pet. Who wants a pet that sleeps all day, is awake all night, and is practically afraid of its shadow?
