The female horse is called a mare. The right terms for horses and donkeys can sometimes be very confusing for a lot of people. Some would even want to refer to the female horse as “female horse” rather than to search for the different names that should be used for the various horses and their genders.
Even young horses will be called differently. A young horse will be called a “filly.” Those who have always loved horses will have no problem addressing the horses correctly because people tend to remember things more when they are learning something that they are interested in.
Some people may sometimes get confused with how a female horse should be called. Some even say that they want to see the “female horse.” They do not bother knowing what proper words can be used in order to address the female horse. You will call a female horse that is three and above a “mare.”
If you would need to address a female horse that is still young, this will be called a filly. There are still so many terms that can be used in order to describe horses but the term horse usually refers to the male horse and not the female horse.
