Quokkas are vegetarians, which means that their diet is mainly comprised of plant material. They eat leaves, stems, and the bark of trees along with grass and the stems of smaller plants. Quokkas are nocturnal, which means they are most active at night when food is scarce. They do have a favorite plant to eat, which is from the Thomasia genus.
There are many varieties of the plant, which has green leaves and beautiful lavender flowers. The main component in their diet is grass, through which they carve tracks. When feeding, they swallow their food whole, regurgitate the food, chew it up, and this is known as chewing their cud. They also need minimal amounts of water to function, and they can go for months without drinking water.
