Why are quokkas smiling all the time?

Quokkas have a happy, genial expression to their face. While it is easy to think that these animals are just super friendly, it is actually due to evolution. Like canines, quokkas’ mouths open slightly to pant allowing them to cool themselves. When they’re happy and hot (which is quite often) they seem like they are smiling.

The fact that quokkas are trusting, gentle, and lovable makes their expression easier to believe. You should be careful though, because they are still wild animals and do have sharp claws and teeth that they will use if they feel threatened.

Quokkas are very friendly animals and have been said to hop right up to people and greet them. Also, the quokka’s mouth is shaped very similar to a dog’s mouth in the sense that when they open their mouth’s to pant when they become hot. The quokka smiles like a dog when it is panting and happy.

The most distinct characteristic of the quokka is that it is always smiling. Quokkas are also very trusting and gentle. Their perpetual smile could also be an accident of evolution. The Quokka has a naturally cheerful and sweet facial expression.
