The Bb clarinet (read: B-flat clarinet) is also known as the soprano clarinet. It is often used in concert and marching bands in addition to being the first clarinet many players learn. The Bb clarinet is sometimes also referred to as the 'normal' clarinet because it is the one that is seen most often.

The Bb clarinet is very close in sound to the A clarinet and the two can even use the same mouthpieces and reeds.
