We need nitrogen because it is critically important to human, animal, and plant life on earth. Nitrogen is an important part of human and animal life because proteins are made from nitrogen-containing amino acids. These proteins are necessary to keep “hair, muscles, skin and other important tissues” healthy.

Without nitrogen, humans and animals would not have any DNA and DNA is what makes people who they are and distinguishes us from animals. Nitrogen is also needed by plants to make chlorophyll that is then used to make food for the plant. And, nitrogen is found in many other chemical compounds, both organic and inorganic.
