The computer programming language called C is one of the most commonly used languages in use today. It was developed between 1969 and 1973 by computer systems researchers at Bell International Laboratories. A researcher by the name of Ken Thompson reported created the computer language referred to as B during 1969-70. B was “derived directly from Martin Richard’s BCPL.
Dennis Ritchie turned B into C during 1971-73, keeping most of B's syntax while adding types and many other changes, and writing the first compiler.” Ritchie, along with several others, continued developing the language during 1972-1977 and Ritchie, together with Brian Kernighan in 1978, wrote the first book defining the C language.
