The thing is that coffee prices tend to change way too often for anyone to hold on the top spot. As of July 2018, the 4 most expensive coffees in the world are:

  1. Black Ivory Coffee (1100$/kilo)

  2. Hacienda La Esmeralda (600$/pound)

  3. Finca El Injerto (500$/pound)

  4. Kopi Luwak (around 200$ per pound)

The prices are according to US markets. They may vary in other countries.

WHY?

Black Ivory is made from the poop of elephants. Ya, you read that right! Coffee Beans are fed to elephants and then removed from their poop. The beans pass through their intestines and are said to ferment and become better.

The thing is that coffee prices tend to change way too often for anyone to hold on the top spot. As

Kopi Luwak is dried feces of civet cats that eat arabica beans. No, unlike black ivory it’s not ‘fermented’ poop bean coffee. It’s just dried poop. Quite literally, in fact. (Ew!)

The thing is that coffee prices tend to change way too often for anyone to hold on the top spot. As
According to coffee connoisseurs who were stupid enough to try this, black ivory is good enough but kopi luwak just has a bad taste. Black Ivory and Kopi Luwak are expensive because of their rarity, ridiculous methods of production and excellent marketing. They’re not exactly rare, they are just supplied effectively.

Hacienda and Finca, on the other hand, are actually excellent coffee beans. Hacienda is made from just a few trees in Panama and is the rarest coffee in the world. Soft to taste and flavor-rich its a delicacy to behold.

The thing is that coffee prices tend to change way too often for anyone to hold on the top spot. As

Finca is made from small beans and also has a rich flavor. All of the above coffees are sold in niche markets in small amounts, which also gives them novelty status and contributes in pushing up their prices.

It sounds disgusting but one of the most expensive coffees in the world is made from beans gathered from animal feces! Yes, you read that right - feces. Not necessarily the most expensive coffee, but surely one of the most expensive coffees is called Kopi Luwak. It’s made in Indonesia from the feces of a cat-like animal called the Asian palm civet or Luwak by the locals.

If left in their natural habitat, the Luwaks will reportedly choose to eat the sweetest and tastiest wild coffee beans they can find. The beans are partially fermented in their digestion system and then excreted in their feces. They are then collected, washed and sold to make coffee.
