A violin is a stringed instrument where you need a bow to play it. The body of the violin (back, sides, and neck) is usually made of maple. The grain should be straight, the wood must also be dense and the figure must also be considered in making a violin. These qualities must be present to provide not only beautiful looks but most especially excellent sound.

Spruce is used on top, the linings, and the internal parts of a violin. The bridge is also made of maple and the fingerboards are made of ebony. The chin rest, peg, and tailpieces can be of ebony, boxwood or rosewood. Today, violin strings are made of steel core or synthetic.
