A common state anti-bullying law requires a school to report, document and investigate bullying. It also necessitates that the school acts to stop it. Many state laws have a consequence for bullies, such as counseling the victim and the bully.
In 2011, Chile's Congress approved the bill about school violence that amended the general law on education to set up precise definitions, procedures, and penalties for school violence and bullying. In Austria, laws impose a legal duty of care on teachers to ensure the safety of their students. In Quebec, there is legislation providing for anti-bullying laws. Georgia passed an anti-bullying bill in 1999 and was the first state in the US to adopt the ruling.
