Treatments for Narcissistic Personality Disorder can be challenging because people with the condition present a great deal of grandiosity and defensiveness, which makes it hard for them to admit to problems and weaknesses. Independent and group psychotherapy may be useful in helping people with the disorder relate to others.
Mentalization-based therapy, Transference-focused therapy, and Schema-focused psychotherapy have all been suggested as effective ways of treatment. No brain scan identifies the disease. No genetic test defines the diagnosis. There is little hard evidence other than studying the behavior of the narcissist.
