A narcissist is an individual that thinks highly of him or herself. They belittle others to uplift themselves. Narcissists take people for granted and take advantage of people, they lack empathy, and they are manipulative, arrogant, demanding, and self-centred. They are often selfish in relationships, have a feeling of entitlement and they always want to be praised.
The hallmark of this is the Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) which is a long term pattern of abnormal behaviour of exaggerated feeling of self-importance, lack of empathy and excessive need of attention.
A narcissist thinks very highly of themselves. They put others down as a way of lifting themselves up. A narcissist has an excessive need for admiration, exaggerated feelings of self-importance, a need for admiration, and a lack of empathy. They will often take advantage of the people around them.
Those who have NPD often look to establish offensive power and control over others. People with this disorder often disregard the feelings of others. People who are narcissists feel they are entitled to take whatever they want from whomever they want, and they will not have to take responsibility for their actions.
