How many types of guitar are there?

A modern guitar has 3 main types which are: nylon-stringed classical guitars, steel-stringed acoustic guitars, and electric guitars. The classical guitars use nylon strings while the other 2 types use steel strings. These give them their distinct sounds and the genre they sound best in. Classical guitars with nylon strings give a full and warm sound while steel-stringed guitars and electric guitars have sharper tones.

For beginners, it is recommended to buy a classical guitar for the nylon strings are softer on fingertips thus, allowing them to practice long hours and they can hear the chords well. It is also less expensive than the two steel-stringed guitars and the price of nylon strings are cheaper.

Today there are eighteen main types of guitars. The first guitar types were very complicated, but they became more simple as time went on. The guitar is still, to this day, the most iconic symbol in modern music.
