People who admire art also appreciate photography massively. Different art pieces are sold for different prices. The most expensive photo was sold for $4.3 million, which portrayed the Rhine River in its metachromatic elegance. It was by Andreas Gurskey. From the 20 most expensive photos of the world, 5 pieces were from Andreas Gurskey’s lens.

When it comes to the female category, Cindy Shirman holds the honor of snapping the most expensive female photo, which costs $ 1 million. These photos are auctioned at exhibitions where the elite rate the photos and buy them off at high prices.

When it comes to the photograph that has sold the most at auction in the history of the world that honor would go to Andreas Gurskey and his photo titled Rhine II. This picture was sold back in 1999 at Christie's in New York for a staggering $4.3 million. It was a simple picture of the Rhine River in Germany that was a chromogenic color print. Gurskey is noted as having several of the top 20 photos ever to be sold in the world.

Five of the top 20 photos that have ever been sold in the world came from the camera of Andreas Gurskey. Gurskey has had nine prints of his to sell for over $1 million. Cindy Sherman holds the distinction of the female having getting the highest price for a picture and is not that far behind Gurskey for the overall honor. Sherman has sold a total of seven prints for over $1 million.

Sherman has the third highest photo sold in history which was from 1981 and was titled, Untitled 96. That photo sold at Christie's as well for $3.9 million. Man Ray was another photographer and artist who was known for selling some of the most expensive photographs in history. The photo though that has sold the most up to this current day is one of the Rhine River that was taken by Andreas Gurskey.
