Being memorable and being the best are two different things. You can be memorable and still not be as good as the elite players. This holds true the other way around. For us, the most memorable player at Wimbledon is Jimmy Connors. He was known for his fierce style and his energetic playing tactics.
He used to be one of the best-ranked players in the world until strategy overtook energy as the secret to success at the Wimbledon. He also won the title in 1982 and had won the men’s title 8 years ago as well. His style has inspired many young tennis players and his name is still fresh in the memories of many.
The most memorable player ever to play at Wimbledon in my opinion was no doubt Jimmy Connors. Connors was always flashy and fierce but always had a playing style that would back up his talk. I have always remembered Connors because when I was young and first started watching sports and keeping up with it, Jimmy Connors was one of the top ranked tennis players in the world.
He won the Wimbledon title in 1982 and that was first the Wimbledon fortnight that I can remember watching and paying any kind of attention to. He had won the men's title there the first time 8 years eariler in 1974. I was always in awe of his playing style and when it came to the game of tennis there was one player that I wanted to always be and that was Jimmy Connors and him at his best playing the green grass at Wimbledon.
