The main goal of Trump’s new tax plan was to cut taxes for the middle class. These have had a sticky history in America, and tax cuts for the wealthy tend to make it through Congress faster than anything else because the wealthy have the money to lobby for them. So, Trump has managed to get tax cuts for the wealthy - for people like him - through so far.
Tax cuts for the middle class are slated to be heard in the Senate in 2019, but if Republicans lose the majority in the upcoming elections, it’s possible Trump’s tax plan could come crashing down and leave middle-class Americans without their tax cut while the wealthy have already gotten theirs. Not fair, but that’s how politics works in America: no one wants to let the other party do something good for the country.
Trump’s main goal in making changes to the tax plan is supposed to help those who are in middle-class families to get more money in the long run. They are supposed to get a tax cut which means that from 2019 – 2025, they will be able to have more money for their day-to-day life. The taxes they have to pay will then increase years after that.
Another possible goal of Trump for these changes is to make taxes simpler. One thing that can be said about taxes though is that they can never be simple. There are just so many things that people can think about. This tax plan may help in the beginning but people still do not know how it would take effect in the future.
