A lot of songs from the 80’s sound somewhat dated and cheesy now when you hear them on the radio. For example, the song, "Mexican Radio" by Wall of Voodoo sounds like a radio parody song rather than a top ten hit.
Another example is “Physical” by Olivia Newton-John. The song once sounded fresh and inspiring, but now when you hear it, it is somewhat fluffy and patronizing. It was probably a fun song to work out to at the time, but now it is just a piece of nostalgic fluff.
"We Belong Together" by Mariah Carey, came out in July 2005. That summer you could not escape this song. It was all over the radio. When you hear the song now, it sounds pretty lame. "In Da Club" by 50 Cent was in every college bar helping guys and girls break the ice by getting' down and dancing.
Now rap songs are written specifically to be a radio hit. "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood and the destroyers sounded cool when it came out in 1982, but now it is super cheesy. "All Star" by Smash Mouth was tolerable at best when it came out in the 90's but hearing it now it almost sounds like a joker parody song.
