Freddy Mercury was inspired by the heavy rock of Led Zepplin and Jimi Hendrix, as well as the articulated harmonies of The Beatles and the over the top look of glam rock singers, such as David Bowie. One notable influence on Mercury was Robert Plant for his singing capabilities.

Elvis Presley also inspired him for his stage presence and Aretha Franklin for her gospel singing. There are also some hints of influences from bands such as The Beatles, Deep Purple, The Who, Led Zepplin, David Bowie, Genesis, and Cream.

The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, The Who, Black Sabbath, Slade, Deep Purple and David Bowie were all significant influences on the whole band. Mercury was most inspired by the rock of Led Zepplin, the vocal harmonies of the Beatles, and the over the top look of glam rock movement.

He was also personally influenced by Robert Plant for his singing capabilities and Elvis Presley for his ability to perform. Another noteworthy influence of Mercury’s was Aretha Franklin for her singing. Queen decide to mix up all of these influences to create their unique and distinctive sound.
