Brutus was one of the main conspirators in Julius Caesar’s death. He was persuaded by Cassius to kill Julius Caesar because they were worried about their positions as senators and the future for Rome based on the ways in which Caesar was running the empire. Therefore, Cassius, Brutus and about fifty-eight other conspirators waited until Caesar came around the corner and stabbed him to death.
Many famous sayings were said during the play and during the real event. However, one of the main sayings was “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.” Brutus asked to speak to the Roman citizens during the funeral in order to convince them that they were not at fault. Instead, Brutus explained that he loved Caesar, but what he did was to help Rome.
He was trying to state that he loved Caesar, but he was trying to save Rome from the corruption that he believed Caesar would cause. Brutus says this to justify to the Romans why they assassinated Caesar. It was also noted to patriotism and republicanism. He killed Caesar, not for power, but for his allegiance to Rome and the republic.
He said that he was valiant, and he honored him, and he also said that he was ambitious, and he slew them. He was also following the conspirator's plan. Brutus was a true patriot for his strength. He chose to put aside his human emotions and to do what was best for the country.
