Julius Caesar was surprised when he was attacked especially by the senators who worked for him and were high-ranking officials, but they were also his friends. However, Caesar had to know that there were problems with his power that he had over the Roman citizens. He knew that some of the citizens were upset and angry over how he was leading Rome.
There were many good things that were going on, but Caesar was truly acting as a dictator. However, I don’t believe he knew that he would get killed especially from his best friend, Brutus. When Caesar states “Et Tu, Brute,” he means that he could not believe that Brutus was going to kill him too. Brutus had been his best friend.
Julius placed a lot of trust in Brutus. Brutus was a good man, and he was supposed to be Caesar’s oldest and closest friend. When Brutus betrayed Caeser, that made Caesar say, “Et Tu Brute," meaning even you Brutus? He would never have suspected that his best friend would conspire against him and have him killed.
"Et Tu Brute" means, "You betray me, too"? Caesar said this when Brutus was stabbing him. These were the well known last lines of Julius Caesar as he was stabbed in the Senate House multiple times by the Senators. Brutus was the last to stab Caesar.
