Which animal lives the shortest?

Some animals can live for many years. It is hard to believe that certain mammals can live almost as long or even longer than humans. When we think of animals’ lifespans, we think that these animals live only ten or maybe twenty years. However, there are animals that live fifty to one hundred years.

Then there are animals that have very short spans of life. It is hard to imagine how little they are on Earth. This animal with the shortest lifespan is the Mayfly. It only lives one day or twenty-four hours. Also, most of the time, their lives are spent in a stage where it is transforming from a nymph. It doesn’t have a lot of time to spend doing anything.

The moment that they are born, they are meant to do what they are tasked to do before their life is snuffed away from them. A typical Mayfly will spend its life as a nymph before it dies.
