There are many types of hat. It would be easy to get an exact number of the types of hats we have in the world. Hats have evolved over time. Many ethnicities and religions have their own type of hat. Hats were mostly used as fashion statement.
The most popular type of hats in the world today include: baseball cap, beret, tophat, bearskin, boater, boss of the plain, bowler, bucket hat, capotain, cartwheel hat, Stetson, sun hat and panama.

There are more than a hundred different types of hats dating back to the caveman era. The hat served a practical purpose, a fashion statement and as part of a uniform. They include a range of styles, specific for different ethnicities, countries and religions. Many of the commonly known styles include the top hat, popular in the 1800s.
Moving on, we see the ascot cap, commonly associated with livestock farmers common on 1900s. There is the commonly seen baseball cap of today. The bearskin, beret, boater, bowler, cartwheel hat, cloche hat, fascinators and fedoras are some common examples of popular hats.
