In its lifetime? Very likely, Yellowstone will erupt again. In our lifetime? Highly unlikely. Many sources say that while there is some increased activity, it’s mainly minor earthquakes, which it has been producing since who-knows-when? These are what we should be worried about, as they could get bigger.
An eruption is not something we need to worry about yet. Scientists often keep their eyes on the likely places an extremely powerful natural event is going to take place. The ones keeping an eye on Yellowstone have given no indication that it’s going to blow in our lifetime, or even in our children’s lifetime. So, for now, sit back and enjoy the beauty of the park. Just be careful of the earthquakes.
Only a day or two ago, it was announced that the magma heat buildup in the Yellowstone supervolcano is greater than had been previously predicted. This is because previous studies had under-estimated how much water was running through the underwater system and being leaked into the many hot water springs that Yellowstone is famous for.
There proved to be a lot of heat unaccounted for, and when this reaches a certain point, like a boiler, it will erupt. Such an event can't be predicted properly and so far all that has been used is the number of times it has erupted before, and at what time periods. The shortest period is 0.64 million years, and most are over a million. However, when Yellowstone does erupt it will be cataclysmic.
