Which are the rarest spices used in the food industry?

If you have ever gone down the spice aisle at the grocery store, you will notice hundreds of jars of spices for you to select from. They are normally in small jars because you don’t use a lot of the spices in meals. You usually sprinkle them into a recipe. Some of the most common spices that can be found in the grocery store include cinnamon, pepper and garlic powder.

However, there are rare spices that are used in special dishes but are hard to find. These include saffron. It is a spice that many people have heard of, but it is made from the crocus plant. It is also very expensive so it can’t be found in common grocery stores. Others include fennel, wattleseed and sumac.

These spices, if you can obtain them, will add wonderful flavour to your cooking dishes, such as curries. Sumac. Meegueta Pepper,
Amchur Powder. Asafoetida.Ajwain. Machalepi. Then, for the making of gin, Juniper Berries. But the rarest spice of all is Saffron, a very expensive buy, and coming from a pretty little flower.

The reason for its rareity is that it is very difficult to grow, but the yellow-staining spice is highly valued and is used for sweet dishes too, and for baking, such as Saffron cake.
