Nathan Hale is one of the most patriotic martyr of all time. He was born June 6, 1755 and he died September 22, 1776. Nathan Hale was an American soldier Nathan Hale was a captain in the Continental army and volunteered to spy on the British during the American Revolution.
He was hanged by the British without a trial on the 22nd of September 1776. He was 21 years old at the time of his death. These were his last words before he died "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."
Martyrs are those individuals who will sacrifice themselves for a greater cause. Recently, there have sadly been many suicide bombers who have been brain-washed to believe that if they sacrifice themselves in the task of killing as many others as possible, they will be pleasing Allah and ensuring themselves a place in Heaven. They believe that killing people in the Western world is a necessary thing. However, misguided, these people are acting from the same principles as famous martyrs such as Joan of Arc.
How can the 'most patriotic' be judged? By number of people saved by their action, degree of awfulness of their death, beliefs and principles maintained or what? Joan of Arc did achieve a lot for Charles VII, a siege was ended after only 9 days when she came on her mission of relief. But I guess most people would say Jesus because his 'people' consisted of everyone living.
