The universe is still expanding. In 1925 the American astrologist Hubble made these observations and was able to evidence a direct relationship between the speeds of distant galaxies and their distances from Earth. This is known as Hubble's Law. The number of galaxies disappearing from our view is increasing. Thanks to the increasing sophistication of our instruments such observations have a high degree of accuracy.

However, the Hubble Space Telescope has discovered that this speed of expansion is much greater than had been predicted from the Big Bang theory. Possibly, the discipline of Physics may have to change as a result, in order to explain the discrepancies.
