There are a lot of people who are not sure if snakes can hear. Even though there is no visible ear available, snakes do have ears. They do not hear the type of sounds that we hear but they can still hear enough to know if there is a threat or not. Take note that the item that they use in order to hear is near their jaw bones.

This will allow them to sense if there are some vibrations on the ground that will provide them with the information that they need. There are still some studies that are ongoing to prove if snakes can hear sounds that travel through the air.

No, snakes don't have ears.

Some might believe that snakes really possess ears and some assume that snakes don’t have ears and eardrums like other animals. But, the fact is that snakes don’t have external ears. However, that doesn't mean they are totally deaf and can’t hear anything.

According to the various research and studies, it has been proven that snakes might hear and sense sounds to some extent by different ways. They possess apparatus for hearing inside their heads and this apparatus is directly attached to their jaw bones. Due to this setup, they can feel vibrations very well and can hear limited sounds mostly of lower frequencies. A snake can also hear sound waves through the air and this could be possible because their skull vibrates whenever sound waves hit it. Undoubtedly, hearing in snakes is quite less than the hearing in humans and other animals who possess ears. They can only hear low-frequency sounds.
