Colonial rulers administered territories but were held accountable to the League of Nations. After World War I, the League of Nation known today as the United Nations created a system known as the “mandate system.” This mandate system created was made in an attempt to stop the reoccurrence of war and fighting.

The mandate was made under Article 22 of the Covenant of the League of Nations. The mandate system referred to regions that were no longer under the rule of their previous sovereign nations. These nations were considered not able to stand on their own. The mandate called for the tutelage of such territories under advanced nations. These advanced nations were accountable to the League of Nations. Hope you find this information helpful
