Is it true that boys are better at Math than girls?

Yes, to date. There is evidence that the male brain operates better in visuo-spatial tasks, but that is only one aspect of math. Much of math involves how much data can be held in working memory and I know of no research that finds males, rather than females, are better at this.

There is a wide body of belief that socio-cultural factors, such as encouragement of interests, affect the greater proportion of males in math and science. It is true that boys do better in math tests while girls do better in verbal tests, but to do well in math and science careers, it is necessary to communicate results. Hence verbal abilities are important too.

It’s a really interesting question and the answer might be gender-based. Some people believe that boys are better at Math than girls while some think that girls are better scorers in Math than boys. This difference has arisen due to the mental outlook of our society.

Over the years, it is the general perception of our society that girls are weak in Math and this will continue into the future too. But, personally, I don’t believe in these worthless concepts and constructs of our society. These are nothing but myths. Reports suggest that in SAT examinations, boys score more than girls. However, in sub-categories of Math, girls perform far better than boys.

One common saying, “Math is a tough subject” will be the same for both girls and boys. Hence, men and women have equal potential to be good or bad at Math.
