There are three parts of any seed the largest of which holds enough stored food for it to enable it to start growth in the spring. In this diagram, it is the bulk of the seed that comprises the stored food, not the stem or the radicle (the brown part at the bottom). It can be seen that the main part is huge in comparison with the stem and the radicle.
