What is an ethnic group?

An ethnic group refers to a group of people who identify with one another, especially on the basis of ancestral, national, cultural, and historical or religious grounds. In most cases, an ethic group lives within the same religion, they speak the same language, and they share a common interest.

There are several ethnic groups across all the continents of the world. Also, it is possible for an individual to belong to more than one ethnic group.

In Article 27 of the International Covenant Civil and Political Rights, it is acceptable for these groups to speak their language, and they have rights. There are different ethnic groups all over the world. This includes in Africa and Asia. Examples of ethnic groups include African American, white, Asian, and Native American. A person can belong to multiple ethnic groups.
