Malacca has a history that does indeed go back to the fourteenth century. In 1396, Parameswara a Sumatran prince fled his country because of the attacking Majapahit Empire. He killed the local ruler and took over what is now Singapore. When he was driven out he moved up the West Coast of Malaysia and founded Malacca. In 1414, he converted to Islam and became Sultan of Malacca.
