It seems that way for a lot of people. Facebook has been around for a long time. It seems that the people are like products that can be sold. Their profiles can be open and people can learn a lot of information about them based on their profiles alone. This was supposed to be a secret but this was exposed.

According to reports, 50 million profiles may have been sold and influenced by pro-Trump data to ensure that Trump will positively win the elections. Based on the results of that election, that seems to be the case. Through the user data, each person will be targeted based on what will be most effective.

One can easily say that yes that Facebook has been treating its users' data as products over the past ten years. The reason for this is the complex advertising platform that is used online and especially on social media sites. The selling of data was exposed when the Cambridge Analytica scandal became worldwide news. CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated under oath that his company was selling user data in order to increase advertising revenue. This is a sheer example that Facebook was treating user data like products that could be sold.

The user data would allow advertisers to be able to precisely target user pages in which they wanted to place their ads. It was apparent that the user data was becoming lucrative products and the company did not want to get rid of one of its money streams. Facebook users though did not approve of this exposing of personal information and spoke up. It forced Zuckerberg and his company to change the way that they allowed companies to advertise on their platform.
