Sister Jean is also known as Jean Dolores Schmidt. She is a religious sister who is part of Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Sister Jean is already 99 years old and a lot of people who consider themselves to be fans of basketball cannot help but become endeared by her.
She has suddenly become the face of college basketball because of the awesome music video that was made. Even those who are not basketball fans have looked at the video and liked it. The sisters are used to not being part of the spotlight but probably because of the music video, they were placed in the spotlight. They actually like it and fans are not complaining.
Sister Jean Schmidt became a popular figure in the sports world this past spring with Loyola Chicago's amazing run in the 2018 NCAA Men's Basketball tournament. She is actually the chaplain for the team and in her wheelchair would embrace and encourage the team to do its very best in which they certainly did. Loyola Chicago was able to make the Final Four but would be defeated by Michigan. It was Sister Jean that stole the show and got just as much publicity as the team itself did.
The 98 year old was quick of wit at her age and stressed that she was happy that the team was able to go as far as they did but if they did not win the national championship then it was not in God's plan. Another amazing fact about Sister Jean is that she has an office in the student center where students can come in and talk to her. Also, Sister Jean lives on campus and actually stays in one of the dorm rooms that are geared for freshmen attending the school.
