When you look at pictures of Machu Pichu, it is obvious that it is high on a mountain. Probably the most likely way to reach the ruins of the Incas is by train. It takes about four hours on this train to reach Machu Pichu. Another way is by bus up the mountain. There is a small town located at the foothills of the mountain.

You get on board there and ride up the mountain to the top. Since these take hours to get there, it does seem to be the most suitable way to get to the top. However, there are some adventurous people who prefer to walk up the mountain. There are trails to the top, but they take days.

When getting to Machu Picchu, there are several options available to you depending on how much money and time you would like to spend. The first, and possibly most traditional way is going to be hiking the Inca Trail. This is a tough hike spanning over 4 days and 3 nights but will allow you to see the sunrise over the citadel.

There is also a shorter version of the hike which starts with a train ride. If you'd prefer not to take the Inca Trail, you can take one of many other hikes, including the Lares Trek, Salkankay Trek, or the newer Chaski Trail. If you're not into hiking for any reason, there are a couple trains that vary in price and accommodations that will get you to the area.
