The Bhopal accident happened in the night of 2nd of December 1984, it was an industrial accident at a Union Carbide subsidiary pesticide plant in Bhopal, India. It is one of the most tragic events to ever happen in India.
About forty tonnes of toxic gas, Methyl Isocyanate (MIC) was accidentally released. The entire atmosphere was exposed to the toxic gas.
This caused problems for the people leading to burning sensation in the lungs of many. Thousands died due to the effects of the toxic gas. Many were left with disorders and different medical conditions.
The accident took place when a large amount of water entered in the MIC tank, causing an exothermic reaction that increased the temperature in the tank. The increase in temperature cause the release of toxic gas to the environment.
Bhopal Gas Tragedy took place in December in 1984. It is one of the worst accidents in the history of India. The tragedy occurred because of an accidental chemical reaction that took place in the factory of the Union Carbide Limited in Bhopal. The poisonous gas started spreading across the city and spread. Almost the whole city turned into a deadly gas chamber. Nearly three thousand of the residents lost their lives.
Many people were left with physical disorders and diseases. The environment was contaminated to a massive extent. It took a long time for Bophal to recover from it. In 1985, a department of Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation was created. Many non- government agencies also provided relief to the victims. With their support, the task of the state government to tackle this situation became comparatively easier.
